Admiral Sir Lionel Preston retired to Dunstable in 1935, living in Murrill House, a Georgian mansion, on High Street North.
The house was demolished in the early 1970’s after the Admiral’s death in 1971. The Snooker Hall, at Admiral Place, is located on the site.
In 1942, he purchased Tower Mill on West Street for the Sea Cadets.
